3/17/2023 0 Comments Horizon dawn![]() I also cannot deny that I may have even teared up a little. There was one area in particular where the timing of the music, the effect of glittering snow falling, and the gently rolling landscape combined in such a way that I found myself stop for many minutes to simply take it in. This is one of those games where, if you go in blind without any expectations, you can be drawn into a world where you will loose yourself in its story, theme and atmosphere. Speaking of choices, this one makes full use of the open world structure to support just about any style of play your little gamer heart desires: Want to soak up all the character development and see the world? You'll have more than enough side quests and errands to keep you roaming and scouring the countryside for hours! Have an itchy trigger finger? There are ample machine and human combat scenarios to scratch that itch! Want to simply wander and waffle about aimlessly, discovering the world's lore organically? The formal quests and combat stages are easy to avoid whilst you romp about, stumbling upon all manner of audio logs, journal entries and environmental story telling. Not only is it a devious way to tip the scales, but with the right targets, it often sows chaos that can lead to some rather amusing results. It's fairly easy to flee if you find yourself too underpowered, but this game also provides a way to literally hack an imbalanced fight. As such, balancing, which is tricky in any open world game, is left to the player to decide. Nearly every combat scenario can be approached, and handled, in whatever manner you choose. Tearing yourself away from the spell, you beat a hasty retreat, bowing beneath the tall grasses to avoid any unwanted followers.įrom young budding forests, to pristine jungles, to mighty canyons, this game takes you on a full cinematic journey, in a truly gorgeous open world, that easily rivals many current blockbusters. 10 paces in, a sliver of movement, little more than a shimmer in the air, betrays the presence of another threat and snaps you back to your senses. And yet, you felt inexplicably compelled to approach, as though you were somehow meant to enter. ![]() A mysterious force almost pulls you up to a crouch, around the nearby rock face, and directly towards a narrow canyon.Ĭarved into the far cliff face was an immense steel door. In fact, it was warm and almost soothing, yet had an inexplicable urgency to it. Strangely, this whisper didn't read as a herald of danger. As you draw another arrow, one keen eye still upon the straggler, a faint whisper causes you to drop flat to the ground instinctively. You breathe again: a pack of this number could have easily overwhelmed an entire hunting party. The machines tense briefly, but otherwise ignore the sound. The last second flinch sends the arrow wide and into a small bush. Just as bowstring snaps, a small part in the clouds sends a bright spark of glare directly into your eyes. Your target, a lone machine sufficiently separated from the rest, could be dispatched quietly with a direct hit to the power cell on its back. Melee engagement wasn't a good move anymore. Cloudy and dry, this was the optimal time to test your luck at range, an important precaution with the recent derangement. A must when hunting the metal scavengers. Slick surfaces made steady aim all the more difficult. Pale as the snowy peaks, though, they held no rains. The sharp glints of polished metal before you retreated as the sun fell behind the silently advancing clouds.
